We have a winner!

The wait is over. We’d like to thank the incredible entrants that made this decision so hard, but we are finally at consensus: The 2024 Pashko Award winner is:

Ilya Kanavalau

Johnson & Johnson 3D Visualisation

The entry

Faced with the challenge of increasing consumer engagement and monthly active users, Ilya went beyond the brief to create an experience that redefined the way a product launch could connect with audiences. Tasked with introducing a new ACUVUE™ contact lenses product, he envisioned an interactive, educational journey that would inform, engage, and inspire.

The result was a thoughtfully designed prototype that walked users step by step through the product’s features, offering a seamless blend of practical education and compelling storytelling. More than a marketing tool, it became a gateway for potential customers to explore and trust a new contact lens brand with confidence.

Ilya’s work embodies the pioneering spirit that so encompassed Ivan and his legacy: bold, considered, and impactful. By merging creativity with purpose, he set a new standard for how design can transform the consumer experience.

Why it won

Ilya’s achievement goes far beyond the creation of a polished proof of concept. While his prototype ultimately convinced the client of its viability, it was the determination, persistence, and ingenuity he demonstrated throughout the project that earned him the prestigious 2024 Pashko Award. His work was not simply a response to the brief, it was a masterclass in pushing boundaries through self-driven learning.

Faced with a tight two-week deadline, Ilya boldly chose to venture into 3D production, a field he had yet to explore. He taught himself 3D software from scratch, designed a virtual pack that mirrored the physical product, animated its dynamic states from multiple angles, and seamlessly integrated these assets into an interactive prototype. This was not merely a technical execution—it was the creation of a compelling proof of concept that blended innovation with craftsmanship.

The Pashko Award celebrates those who embody a frontier spirit, and Ilya exemplified this through his willingness to embrace the unknown, learn rapidly, and deliver a solution that far exceeded expectations. His ability to transform curiosity into action and turn an ambitious vision into reality is exactly why his journey became worthy of recognition.
